News & Viewsback to overviewNews - July 2008 Holidays, ferias, fiestas and much more…August in Spain tends to be the holiday month – some businesses close for the whole month, many people will take 2 or 3 weeks off and head to the beach and some will simply take time off to enjoy their local feria. Whatever you are planning to do during August, the thing to remember is watch out for the heat. Predictions are for a hot August and with water restrictions in place, you need to make sure that you don’t let the plants or Aunty Val die in the heat! We, at Torcal Estates plan on taking some time off around the feria (13th to 18th August) to enjoy the festivities. This year, the feria in Villanueva de la Concepción will start on the Wednesday night with a rock concert in the Plaza Andalucia. One of the highlights for us, is the Ruta de Las Tapas which is a tour of 11 bars in the village to enable you to sample their hospitality and their food (and drink!). Basically, what happens is that you buy a book in the main plaza which has a space for each bar that you visit to place a sticker – once you’ve been to all 11 bars (and had a tapa and a drink in each!) then you redeem your book for a free t-shirt to confirm that you’ve been to all the bars. Now, the Spanish are not, in the main, heavy drinkers. Those Spaniards that drink a lot tend to be the bar fly variety that are almost always men. The great thing about the Ruta de Las Tapas is that it involves a great variety of people – young, old, men and women who simply want to enjoy the variety of tapas that is available within the village and to have a few drinks on the way. So, anyone that wishes to make contact with Torcal Estates during the feria please have patience – we will get back to you but it may take a day or so to do so. Feliz feria!
