News & Viewsback to overviewNews - November 2007 Environmental concerns bring buyers closer to homeWith the increased awareness of environmental issues and the likelihood that governments will impose new taxes on our individual carbon footprints, there is an increase in interest from buyers seeking a foreign property closer to home. Rather than rely on air travel, many buyers are considering countries within Europe that they can reach by car or even train. These “green” buyers will have a detrimental affect on the property market within places such as the US, Australia and New Zealand which have all been popular, not least because of the language issue. New AVE (high speed railway) links are bringing the south of Spain closer to the rest of Europe and the UK. The recently opened AVE link between Malaga and Madrid means that travellers can travel between the two cities in just over 2 hours.
