News & Viewsback to overviewNews - August 2007 What, no news? The month of August is generally regarded as the most important month in the whole of the Spanish party calendar. Most villages hold their annual “feria” during August and partly due to this and the heat, many villages shut up shop and have fun. We, at Torcal Estates are no different. It’s one of the main reasons why northern Europeans move to southern Spain – to enjoy the sunshine and the fiestas! During August, the village of Villanueva de la Concepción will be celebrating its feria as well as hosting the 21st celebration of the Verdiales, a folk music particular to the Málaga province. Whilst some businesses continue for the month as usual (especially the bars and restaurants!), the vast majority will close down for the month of August, head to the beach or simply enjoy time with the family over a cool “tinto de verrano”. If you are considering joining in with the festivities in Spain during August, make sure you wear something cool, mix with the locals and don’t go out before 10pm – with the hot evenings most events don’t start until midnight! Feliz fiestas y hasta muy pronto!
