Villanueva de la ConcepciónThe white village of Villanueva de la Concepción is located just 40 minutes north of the city of Malaga, the coast, Málaga airport and just 15mins south of the city of Antequera. Set in some of the most beautiful countryside to be seen within Andalucia, this attractive village sits at the foot of the El Torcal mountain range and National Park. This traditional pueblo blanco (white village) has a population of just over 3,000 inhabitants. The area is dominated by agriculture, which helps to sustain the local economy. The village is not dependent on mass tourism and is therefore unspoilt by the side effects unlike much of the coastal strip. Whilst the majority of the population of Villanueva de la Concepción lives in the pueblo itself there are many hamlets that surround the main village where you can experience the more relaxed pace of country living within rural Andalucia. The village boasts a number of modern conveniences such as a 24hr Medical Centre with Ambulance, a newly constructed Sports Centre including a communal swimming pool (outdoor), a large sports hall for a variety of sports and a gymnasium. There are a number of bars and restaurants in and around the village serving some of the best food to be tasted throughout Andalucia. Choose from fish specialities, grilled meats, local soups and stews through to the locally made desserts. The cost of food and drink varies dramatically throughout Spain, however for most northern Europeans there is a very pleasant surprise in store when you first pick up the bill in one of the bars or restaurants in this area. A glass of beer can be bought for as little as €1 and with a tapa on top the cost will rise to €1.50! Even a 3-course workers lunch (Menu del Dia) will only set you back a meagre €7.50 and that includes a drink! There are many who live in Villanueva de la Concepción who do not venture out of the village, and for this reason you can buy pretty much everything you need for day to day living from the local shops (some of the shops look like an Aladdin’s cave with their shelves stacked full of products). Hardware shops supply all you’ll need on a regular basis and often at a far cheaper cost than the larger DIY superstores found down at the coast. back to overviewQuick Links
