RiogordoRiogordo is once again situated within the Axarquia region just 35km from Málaga and Velez Málaga. At 400m above sea level it is slightly lower than its near neighbour, Colmenar and therefore it is slightly warmer during the winter months (but also slightly warmer during the summer!). The name of the village (literally fat river) is actually thought to come from the mineral deposits seen within the water as opposed to the more popular version, which is the amount of water that the river carries on an annual basis. Either way, the river runs through the bottom of the village and creates an idyllic setting when approaching the village for the first time. The village is now home to approximately 2,700 residents, although during its history it has also been home to Romans, Phoenicians and of course, the Moors, primarily due to its location and the availability of free flowing water. The views surrounding Riogordo are spectacular with a number of mountain ranges being within view – these include the Sierra de Tejada which provide a stunning backdrop to the evening sunsets! back to overviewQuick Links
