CasabermejaThis village is somewhat sadly known for its junction with the main motorway that runs north from Málaga to Antequera, Granada, Seville and Cordoba. Whilst those traveling along the motorway will see little of any great interest from the road, those venturing into the village will be rewarded. The 24hr petrol station just off the motorway is a well known landmark for those venturing off to Villanueva de la Concepción, Colmenar and other villages although the village itself offers a much more traditional feel when you stroll through the tightly-nit streets. The name Casabermeja is derived from the Moorish Q’sar Bermeja meaning the Red Castle although there is a more recent derivation, which was popularized by locals who insisted that when visited by Queen Isabella in the 16th Century she exclaimed “Qué Casa Bermeja!” which means “What a red house!”. The village is blessed with a number of excellent restaurants (primarily due to the weekend visitors from Málaga), which offer a wide selection of local specialties such as paella, a mixed mountain platter, salt baked sea bream and roast suckling pig. back to overviewQuick Links
